The hotel is often the biggest part of a holiday's cost. These simple habits can save you a lot without staying somewhere you will not enjoy.
1. Compare, then compare again
The same room can have different prices on different booking sites. A comparison search shows many sites at once, so you can see the best price quickly.
2. Choose free cancellation
Book a room with free cancellation, then check the price again a few weeks later. If it drops, you can rebook at the lower price. Always read the cancellation date carefully.
3. Think about location
- A hotel a little outside the centre, but near a metro or bus stop, is often much cheaper.
- For beach holidays, check how far it really is from the beach by looking at a map.
4. Read recent reviews
Look at reviews from the last few months, not years ago. Look for comments about cleanliness, noise and the bed. These matter most.
5. Check the total price
Some places add city tax, resort fees or cleaning fees. City tax is often paid at the hotel. Check what is included before you book.
6. Consider apartments
For families or longer stays, an apartment with a kitchen can save a lot on food.
7. Travel mid-week
In cities, Sunday to Thursday nights are often cheaper than Friday and Saturday.
